Dr. Michael Covaney

Dr. Michael Covaney graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1993. He received his Dental Degree (Cum Laude Honors, 1997) and his Prosthodontic Training (2000) from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, the Peninsula Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a member of the Virginia Section of the American College of Prosthodontists.

A prosthodontist is a dentist who has completed dental school plus at least three additional years of advanced training and education in an CODA-accredited prosthodontic graduate program. They specialize in treating and handling dental and facial problems that involve restoring missing tooth and jaw structures. A prosthodontist is highly trained in cosmetics, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD), and more.

Dr. Mike has been providing dental care to patients in the Newport News area since 2000 and has at the Pilot House location since he and Dr. Sharon opened the practice in 2005.

When Dr. Mike is not in the office he can be found supporting his son Jason, who both swims and plays baseball for the Hampden-Sydney Tigers and his daughter Jocelyn, who competes in track for Walsingham Academy.  Dr. Mike enjoys traveling, exercising and he is an avid Hot Wheels collector.



Dr. Sharon Cole Covaney

Dr. Sharon Cole Covaney originally from Newport News, VA, graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Management from Virginia Tech in 1993. She earned her Dental Degree in 1997, Cum Laude Honors, along with Advanced Education in General Dentistry Training in 1998 from the Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Peninsula Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry and Pierre Fauchard Academy. She served as a component representative to the New Dentist Committee, has served as both Secretary and President of the Peninsula Dental Society and participates in local school activities relating to dentistry, including National Give Kids a Smile Day.

Dr. Sharon is the mother of two children, Jason & Jocelyn. When she isn’t cheering the kids on at a swimming pool, baseball field or track meet, she enjoys reading, exercise and hot yoga.
